UMPG Writer Jimmy “Napes” Napier Wins Second Award for Both SESAC Songwriter Of The Year and Song Of The Year

NEW YORK, April 18, 2016 — At the 20th annual SESAC Pop Awards held tonight in NYC, Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) took home the three top honors for the second year in a row, winning Publisher of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year.

UMPG President – North America Evan Lamberg and the UMPG creative team accepted the awards at the star-studded event, which recognized the songwriters and publishers of SESAC’s most performed works in 2015.

UMPG writer Jimmy Napes also captured top honors again this year, winning Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year for his global hit single “I’m Not The Only One,” as recorded by Sam Smith. Napes’ awards are just the latest in a remarkable run of successes – in February he won a Grammy for Song of the Year for co-writing “Stay with Me,” as well as both the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Song for co-writing (with Smith) “Writing’s on the Wall,” the theme from the James Bond film Spectre.

UMPG writers were also recognized for nine award-winning songs written by Napes, Mumford & Sons, Disclosure, Tourist, AlunaGeorge, Oscar Holter, Elvin Smith, and Tourist.

“It’s a very special thing when a music publisher, and their hit songwriters, repeat winning all the major awards at the SESCAC Pop Awards. Congratulations to all of our songwriters, especially Jimmy Napier for being named Songwriter of The Year and winning Song of The Year for the second consecutive year. Very rare and so well deserved,” added Lamberg.
