Itamar Shafrir appointed General Manager, Publishing and Production Music

SANTA MONICA and TEL AVIV, July 7, 2021 – Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), a leading, global music publishing company, today announced the launch of its Israel division, UMPG Israel, with the office open effective immediately. UMPG will be the only major music publishing company with an office there, providing dedicated on-the-ground support for its world-class roster of songwriters, and will discover, sign and develop Israeli music creators.

20-year music business veteran Itamar Shafrir has been appointed UMPG Israel’s General Manager, Publishing and Production Music, effective immediately. He reports dually to Simon Baker, General Manager of UMPG Europe Publishing, and Michael Sammis, President of Universal Production Music worldwide. In addition to his service in various music roles in New York, Tel Aviv and London, Shafrir worked in film and television for 12 years and held leadership roles at UMG sister company Havas London.

The launch of UMPG in Israel will drive new opportunities both for UMPG’s global and domestic songwriters within Israel’s vibrant entertainment, media, and technology communities, among others.

UMPG Israel’s launch builds upon Universal Music’s growing presence and business success in the territory. In June 2020, UMPG parent company Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, separately announced the launch of a new Israel recorded music division. While UMPG represents songwriters, song catalogs and music publishing rights, Universal Music Israel is focused on signing and developing domestic Israeli talent, commercial partnerships, and new technology opportunities with Israeli companies.
