Universal Music Greater China Appoints Vivian Xu as Chief Operating Officer

BEIJING – March 26, 2025Universal Music Greater China (UMGC), a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment today announced the appointment of veteran industry executive Vivian Xu as Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately. Based in Beijing, Vivian Xu will report directly to Timothy Xu, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Greater China.

In her new role, Vivian Xu will collaborate closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to shape and execute operational strategies, oversee daily business operations, implement strategic initiatives, and identify opportunities for market expansion.

Vivian Xu brings extensive executive experience across the music industry and broader corporate operations. Most recently, she served as Managing Director at Columbia China, leading successful initiatives in artist development, local repertoire expansion, and strategic collaborations with DSP and media partners. Prior to this, Vivian Xu held senior finance and operational roles at Sony Music Entertainment China, which she joined in October 2015, overseeing finance, legal, HR, IT, administration, and supply chain functions. In this capacity, she significantly enhanced financial governance, streamlined operational processes, and successfully executed growth-driven strategies. Her earlier experience includes leadership positions at Motorola Solutions, Sony Ericsson, and Schneider Electric China, further demonstrating her robust expertise in finance and operations.

Vivian Xu holds an MBA from Pacific States University and a Master’s degree in International Finance from the University of International Business & Economics.
